It is believed that after the death of the Kauravas, when the Pandavas were searching for Lord Shiva to ask for the boon of liberation, then Shiva stayed in this cave and meditated.
According to another mythological belief, Lord Shiva hid in this cave to escape from Bhasmasura. Bhasmasura received the boon by worshipping Shiva that he would put his hands on anyone’s head, he would be consumed at that moment. The demon thought to try this boon on Lord Shiva, hence he started following Lord Shiva.
